The Gerontological Advisory Council
The Gerontological Advisory Council was formed by Veterans Affairs Canada in October, 1997 to advise the Department on policies, programs, services and trends impacting Canada's aging veteran population.
Veterans Affairs Canada Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Special Needs
In the Fall of 2005, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) established an Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Special Needs to consider the unique perspective of special needs’ Veterans as part of the Department's ongoing consultation effort. The VAC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Special Needs, better known as the Special Needs Advisory Group or SNAG for short, was also established to serve as an appropriate portal that will allow access for special needs' Veterans and their families to have their issues identified and heard.
Veterans Affairs Canada - New Veterans Charter Advisory Group
In 2007, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) established the New Veterans Charter Advisory Group (NVCAG) as an independent advisory body operating at arm’s length from the Department. This advisory group was formed to provide expert advice and guidance to VAC with respect to the New Veterans Charter’s (NVC) implementation and VAC’s ongoing modernization effort. The NVCAG monitors the responsiveness of the NVC in meeting the needs of Veterans and their families. In October 2009, the NVCAG has submitted a report, Honouring Our Commitment to Veterans and Families, The Living Charter in Action, which contains strategies and recommendations for improving services to CF Veterans and their families.
